This large painting shows explosive action in the midst of rural stillness. The boy seems to have hooked a fish so big we wonder if he will land it. The girl is offering him a plastic fishing lure, apparently wanting to be of help. Everything about the picture reminds us of days gone by, when long summer days and a good fishing hole could bring us endless satisfaction. The setting looks ideal for the children. Their bare feet can feel the wooden dock, they can smell the scent of the water and all the green grass and trees here, they can feel the soft warmth of the morning sun and know the excitement of hooking a big fish. Their overalls and checkered flannel shirts give them the look of country children. Perhaps they live nearby and use this spot for fishing in summer, skating in winter, watching baby ducklings in the spring and collecting bright fall leaves in autumn. Zolan shows them at a moment that neither may ever forget.
